Riverfront road construction begins in Mangaluru, Karnataka
Mangaluru's legislative assembly Speaker UT Khader announced that a riverfront road is being developed along the Nethravati River in his constituency. This road will connect Kallapu to Sajipa. Construction is happening at several locations, but the project will take more time to finish. The estimated cost is Rs 160 crore, and it will be done in phases. Currently, about 20% of the work is complete. Khader mentioned that the Thumbe vented dam, which supplies water to Mangaluru, is not at its full capacity. If the dam were filled completely, it could flood nearby agricultural lands, potentially costing Rs 160 to Rs 180 crore in compensation to landowners. The new riverfront road aims to prevent such flooding issues. The road will improve travel for people going from Mangaluru to Harekala, Pavoor, Inoli, and Sajipa. Once completed, it will help commuters avoid traffic jams. The route will also provide scenic views of the river and surrounding nature, including plantations and small islands. Currently, construction work includes areas from Kojapadi to Harekala and from Pavoor Ajiruli to Dota near Inoli Kadavu. Additionally, Khader shared plans for a seafront road from Kotepura to Talapady, which is still in the early stages and is expected to cost around Rs 1,000 crore to complete.
