Rochester enforces seasonal parking rules due to snowfall
ROCHESTER — The City of Rochester is reminding residents to follow Seasonal Parking Requirements as a winter storm approaches. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for southeastern Minnesota starting Tuesday night, March 18, 2025, lasting until late Wednesday evening, March 19. Public Works Director Tyler Niemeyer emphasized the importance of clear streets. He stated that keeping roads clear helps emergency responders and garbage services. Although enforcement of parking rules has been temporarily lifted due to warm weather, cooperation from residents is crucial now that snow is expected. The National Weather Service forecasts total snow accumulations of four to nine inches, with possible blizzard conditions. Residents are encouraged to adhere to parking guidelines to facilitate snow removal. Seasonal Parking Requirements are in place from November 1 to April 1 from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vehicles must be parked on the side of the street corresponding to the day’s date. Even house numbers should park on the even side and odd numbers on the odd side. While nighttime parking is permitted on both sides, it must follow the next day's requirements from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. All posted parking signs should be followed, and this rule does not apply to metered spaces. For more information, residents can visit the City of Rochester website where additional resources are available.
