Rocket Lab schedules rapid launch for wildfire detection satellites

Rocket Lab USA, Inc. has announced a new mission called "Finding Hot Wildfires Near You." This mission is scheduled to launch on March 27, 2025. It will take place from Rocket Lab's launch site in New Zealand. The mission is notable for its quick turnaround. Rocket Lab signed the contract with OroraTech just four months ago. OroraTech, based in Germany, specializes in wildfire detection and monitoring. During the launch, Rocket Lab's Electron rocket will send eight satellites into orbit. These satellites will help expand OroraTech's existing network. They are designed to provide real-time data about wildfires using advanced technology, including thermal infrared cameras. This will be Rocket Lab's fifth launch this year and the 63rd mission for the Electron rocket. It will bring the total number of satellites Rocket Lab has launched to 224. The launch is part of efforts to improve wildfire response and protect communities and forests around the world. The live broadcast of the launch will start 20 minutes before liftoff.
