Rocket Lab sets launch record as Firefly Aerospace emerges as new competitor
Rocket Lab launched its 12th rocket of 2024 on November 5, setting a new record for the company. This surpasses its previous total of 10 launches in 2023, with potential for more launches before the year ends. Firefly Aerospace is emerging as a new competitor, having launched five rockets since September 2021. The company has secured contracts for 25 missions with Lockheed Martin and 23 with L3Harris, along with plans for future launches. Firefly is developing larger rockets, including the Antares 330 and a new Medium Launch Vehicle, both capable of carrying more payload than Rocket Lab's upcoming Neutron rocket. Firefly also plans lunar missions with its Blue Ghost spacecraft, expanding its capabilities in the space industry.
