Roger Craig Smith reveals fear of heights in gaming
Roger Craig Smith, known for his work in video games, recently shared his experiences and fears as a voice actor. Interestingly, he has a fear of heights, which is ironic because he is famous for his role in the "Assassin’s Creed" series, where players climb high buildings. Smith, 49, began his career in the early 1990s. His breakout role came in 2009 when he voiced Ezio, a beloved character in "Assassin’s Creed II." Since then, he has reprised this role seven more times. Apart from "Assassin’s Creed," Smith also voices Sonic the Hedgehog and Batman, with a recent performance in 2024's "Arkham Shadow." During a recent visit to London for the launch of "Assassin’s Creed Shadows," set for March 20, Smith reflected on his gaming journey. He fondly recalled receiving an Intellivision console for Christmas and playing "Astrosmash" with his family. The first game he truly loved was "Halo," which excited him after work. Smith has praised the Sega Dreamcast, highlighting its innovative features and the memorable games he played, like "Virtua Tennis." He also cited "Half Life” as an important influence on his acting career. The voice acting in that game opened his eyes to the power of storytelling in gaming. Although he continues to stay busy with work, Smith admits he hasn’t played many games recently. He owns an Xbox Series X and an Oculus Quest 3 and finds virtual reality exciting. Despite his limited gaming, he plans to dive into the entire "Assassin’s Creed" franchise whenever he can. Reflecting on his career, Smith feels grateful to have voiced iconic characters. He is excited about the future of gaming and looks forward to new projects that will inspire both him and gamers around the world.
