Romanian court orders recount of presidential election ballots after far-right candidate's win
A Romanian court has ordered a recount of all ballots from the first round of the presidential election, which was won by far-right candidate Calin Georgescu. The decision follows allegations of electoral fraud and irregularities. The Central Election Bureau must submit scanned reports by Sunday and original ballots by Tuesday. Georgescu's victory has sparked protests due to his controversial past and remarks, while concerns have been raised about TikTok's influence on the election. This election marks the first time in 35 years that the Social Democratic Party did not have a candidate in the second round. Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu resigned after narrowly losing to reformist candidate Elena Lasconi, who criticized the court's decision.
