Romanian prosecutors raid properties linked to illegal campaign funding for Georgescu's presidential run

Romanian prosecutors have conducted raids linked to Bogdan Peschir, suspected of illegally financing Calin Georgescu’s presidential campaign. This follows the Constitutional Court's decision to annul the elections after allegations of foreign interference and improper funding surfaced. The raids targeted three properties in Brasov, focusing on voter corruption, money laundering, and cyber fraud. Peschir is accused of paying $381,000 to promote Georgescu's campaign on TikTok, which the court found had distorted the election outcome. In a separate investigation, prosecutors raided nine properties across six counties related to extremist groups promoting violence or hatred during the elections. They are examining messages inciting violence against candidates and promoting extremist ideologies.
