Romanian prosecutors raid properties linked to illegal campaign funding for presidential candidate Georgescu
Romanian prosecutors conducted raids on Saturday linked to Bogdan Peschir, suspected of illegally financing Calin Georgescu's presidential campaign. This follows the Constitutional Court's annulment of the elections due to alleged voter corruption and improper funding sources. The court's decision cited the use of digital technologies and foreign support for Georgescu's campaign. Intelligence reports indicated that Peschir paid $381,000 to promote Georgescu on TikTok, raising concerns about external interference in the election. In addition, prosecutors raided properties in six counties investigating extremist groups promoting violence or hatred related to the elections. They are looking into messages inciting violence against candidates and promoting extremist ideologies.
