Romanian prosecutors search homes linked to illegal funding of far-right candidate's campaign
BUCAREST, Romania — Romanian prosecutors conducted searches on Saturday at homes linked to Bogdan Peschir, suspected of illegally funding the presidential campaign of far-right candidate Calin Georgescu. This follows the Constitutional Court's unprecedented decision to annul the recent elections. The court's ruling cited illegal use of digital technologies and unreported funding sources. Intelligence reports indicated that Peschir paid $381,000 to TikTok users to promote Georgescu, who had previously declared zero campaign expenses. In a separate investigation, prosecutors also raided nine properties across six counties related to extremist groups accused of promoting violence and hate during the elections.
