Ron Walker to keynote Kingmakers of Oakland's symposium
Ron Walker, the founder of the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color (COSEBOC), will be a keynote speaker at the 2025 Spring Symposium hosted by Kingmakers of Oakland. The event will take place from April 10 to 12 in Oakland, California. Walker is known for his work advocating for African-American boys in education. During the symposium, Walker will share his journey and insights on supporting boys of color academically and personally. His experience as a teacher and principal, along with his leadership at COSEBOC, highlights his commitment to transforming education for these students. He has received recognition from prestigious groups, including Harvard University. To make the symposium more accessible, Kingmakers of Oakland has introduced a sliding scale fee for participants from financially challenged organizations. This initiative aims to encourage educators and community leaders, especially those in underfunded areas, to attend and engage in meaningful discussions. The theme of this year's symposium is "Black Love: Joy, Healing & Hope." Attendees will partake in workshops, discussions, and a Student Showcase featuring youth from Kingmakers of Oakland. These activities will center on how African-centered cultural principles can enhance education. Kingmakers of Oakland is dedicated to improving the lives and educational outcomes for Black boys. Their mission is to celebrate Black culture and create environments where these students can thrive. Walker’s commitment to education reflects his background and personal experiences growing up in a family that valued learning despite challenges.
