RTÉ faces scrutiny over €250k staff clothing expenses

RTÉ, the Irish broadcaster, is facing scrutiny over its spending on clothing for staff. The total spending has exceeded €250,000 since 2021. It is reported that the broadcaster spent €58,000 at Louis Copeland and €71,000 at Brown Thomas. In addition to these expenses, RTÉ spent €908 to rent two dresses for the Rose of Tralee and €119 on cowboy boots. Fine Gael TD Micheál Carrigy has called for the Director General, Kevin Bakhurst, to explain these expenditures. He stressed the importance of ensuring value for money when using taxpayer funds. Carrigy expressed concern that this spending does not reflect the commitments made for a new era of accountability within the organization. The issue raises questions about how public resources are managed and whether the spending aligns with the expectations of the public.
