Rugby player Andy Onyeama-Christie recovers from severe injury
Rugby player Andy Onyeama-Christie has shared the intense pain he experienced after suffering a severe ankle injury. The 25-year-old, who plays for Saracens, was injured during a match against Harlequins on October 13, 2023. Onyeama-Christie knew immediately he had a serious injury after a tackle. However, the pain intensified when another player accidentally kicked his injured ankle. "That's where I had the worst pain imaginable," he said. He described seeing his foot facing the wrong way, which left him in shock. He added that he would prefer to break his arm every day for 100 days rather than feel that kind of pain again. After receiving pain relief on the field, he was transported to Paddington Hospital, where he was treated. The injury required two surgeries to realign his foot. In the weeks following the injury, Onyeama-Christie had a challenging recovery. He spent much of his time sleeping or taking pain medication. After being told he would be out for at least six months, he worked hard to recover more quickly. On November 4, he had his cast removed. By late January, he was able to begin running again. However, he faced another setback that required more surgery. Now, as he approaches a potential return to the field, he is set to play against Harlequins on March 22, which is also his birthday. After returning to training last month, Onyeama-Christie is excited about the possibility of playing again. He acknowledged the special significance of his comeback game being on his birthday and against the same team that caused his injury.
