Russia expands nuclear doctrine as Ukraine war reaches 1,000 days
Russia has updated its nuclear doctrine, allowing for a broader use of nuclear weapons. This includes potential use against non-nuclear states that are supported by nuclear powers. President Vladimir Putin signed the decree on the 1,000th day of the Ukraine conflict. The change follows U.S. approval for Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russian military targets. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that aggression from a non-nuclear state, with nuclear state support, will be viewed as a joint attack. He emphasized that nuclear weapons are seen as a deterrent and would only be used if Russia feels compelled to respond.
