Russia fires intercontinental ballistic missile at Dnipro in escalating conflict
Ukraine's air force reported that Russia fired an RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at Dnipro, marking a potential escalation in the conflict. This missile is designed to evade defenses and can carry nuclear warheads. Russia is estimated to have around 306 strategic ICBMs, capable of delivering up to 1,185 nuclear warheads. These include the SS-27 Mod 1 and Mod 2 missiles, with ongoing development of the larger Sarmat missile and the hypersonic Avangard vehicle. The RS-26 Rubezh has a range of 5,800 kilometers and can reach speeds of 4,000 mph, making it hard to intercept. Its use in the Dnipro strike, alongside other missiles, resulted in damage to local facilities and injuries to civilians.
