Russia imposes record fine of two undecillion roubles on Google for media restrictions
A Russian court has fined Google an unprecedented two undecillion roubles, equivalent to $20 trillion, for limiting access to Russian state media on YouTube. This amount far exceeds Google's total value and the world's GDP.
The fine doubles daily until paid, according to Russian state media. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the figure's enormity but urged Google to take notice.
This situation escalates ongoing tensions between Russia and Google, which began in 2020 and intensified after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Previous fines against Google for similar issues have also occurred, reflecting the tight restrictions on media in Russia.
