Russia imposes record fine on Google for blocking pro-Russian channels
Russia has fined Google an unprecedented amount of 2 undecillion rubles, equivalent to about $20 decillion. This penalty follows Google's refusal to pay fines for blocking pro-Russian channels on YouTube.
A Russian court has ordered Google to restore the blocked channels or face increasing fines that double weekly. The Kremlin has stated that the fine symbolizes the government's stance on media restrictions.
Despite the legal challenges, Google continues to operate in Russia, although it has limited its activities since the invasion of Ukraine. The company has acknowledged ongoing legal issues but does not expect them to significantly impact its earnings.
