Russia imposes record fine on Google for blocking state media channels

Russia has fined Google an unprecedented amount of 2 undecillion roubles, equivalent to $20 decillion, for blocking 17 state media channels on YouTube. This fine surpasses the total global GDP and Google's market value.
The fine will increase if not paid within nine months, with daily penalties of 100,000 roubles that double weekly. The Kremlin hopes this massive fine will prompt Google to change its policies regarding Russian media.
Google has blocked over 1,000 YouTube channels and 5.5 million videos since halting ads in Russia in March 2022. The Kremlin claims these actions restrict the activities of Russian broadcasters.
