Russia may deplete tank supply by 2026 due to losses in Ukraine, report says

A report from the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) indicates that Russia could run out of tanks by 2026 due to unsustainable losses in Ukraine. In 2024, Russian forces lost about 1,400 main battle tanks and thousands of other armored vehicles. The IISS noted that while Russia has refurbished some older equipment, the condition of stored vehicles may hinder their effectiveness. The report suggests that current production rates cannot keep up with battlefield losses indefinitely. Despite these challenges, Russia's military spending increased by 42% in 2024, reaching an estimated $145.9 billion. This figure, adjusted for purchasing power, is closer to $462 billion, surpassing total European military spending for the year.
