Russia offers debt forgiveness to new military recruits to boost enlistment
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law offering debt forgiveness to new army recruits. This initiative aims to increase military personnel amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. Recruits can have debts of up to 10 million rubles forgiven. The law applies to those who enlist for a one-year contract and includes their spouses. This move follows previous recruitment strategies that provided financial incentives, avoiding another mobilization order after the 2022 mobilization led to mass emigration. In related developments, Russia recently launched a new intermediate-range ballistic missile, which struck a factory in Dnipro, Ukraine. This missile, identified as Oreshnik, is reported to be based on an existing intercontinental ballistic missile design.
