Russian missile strike in northern Ukraine kills 11 and injures 84
A Russian ballistic missile strike in Sumy, Ukraine, killed 11 people, including two children, and injured 84 others. The attack damaged 15 buildings, including schools, and a search and rescue operation is ongoing. In a separate development, the U.S. has allowed Ukraine to use longer-range missiles to strike inside Russia. This follows extensive lobbying by Ukrainian officials and is the second time the U.S. has permitted such actions. Ukraine's air defenses intercepted 144 out of 210 air targets during a recent wave of attacks, which included missiles and drones aimed at energy infrastructure. The strikes have raised concerns about damage to Ukraine's power generation ahead of winter.
