Sacramento nightclub bans MAGA attire for patron safety
A nightclub in Sacramento has decided to ban clothing associated with the Make America Great Again (MAGA) slogan. The club, Badlands, is known for being a welcoming space for the LGBTQ community. The decision came after a patron wearing a MAGA cap made others feel uncomfortable. The owner of Badlands, TJ Bruce, shared the news on Instagram. He emphasized the club’s commitment to making people feel safe and respected. Many in the LGBTQ community view MAGA attire as a sign of intolerance, especially given the current challenges to LGBTQ rights. Bruce mentioned that they considered a broader policy against political attire but chose a targeted ban instead. He stated this decision is focused on comfort and support for the community, not on restricting political beliefs. The ban has garnered mostly positive reactions on social media, with users applauding the club’s stance. However, some expressed worries about potential protests or legal issues for LGBTQ-friendly spaces. The patron who triggered the ban, Steven Bourasa, identified as a gay Republican. He stated that he anticipated backlash for wearing the MAGA cap and felt it reflected unfair assumptions about conservatives. Despite his disappointment with the ban, Bourasa said he would respect the new rule if he returns to Badlands.
