The government's recent proposals included stricter eligibility rules for PIP, set to begin in November 2026. Khan stressed that PIP acts as a lifeline for many individuals. Khan also commented on remarks made by Health Secretary Wes Streeting regarding mental health diagnoses. He stated that he trusts medical professionals for accurate diagnoses and believes it is not appropriate for him, as a politician, to discuss the intricacies of mental health diagnosis. Similarly, Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, supported Khan’s views, arguing against cuts to support for disabled individuals unable to work. Khan echoed this sentiment, affirming that the welfare system must not abandon those in need of support.
