Safety concerns worsen for Pulianthope residents
Residents of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) tenements in Pulianthope are facing serious safety problems. The KP Park complex, home to over 1,500 families, has deteriorated badly. Common issues include poor construction, damaged staircases, and broken elevators. Some areas are littered with trash, and there is not enough lighting. These unsafe conditions were highlighted last year when a senior citizen died after being trapped in an elevator. In response, TNUHDB officials have requested funding from the government for repairs. They are asking for 1 crore rupees to fix the elevators. Officials claim they are addressing other concerns as well. Metrowater is reportedly working on the water supply, and garbage collection is supposed to happen daily. However, issues persist as some residents still discard waste improperly. There have also been efforts to crack down on drug dealing in the area. TNUHDB member secretary Anshul Mishra stated that they are working with various government departments to solve these problems. These include partnerships with local authorities, the police, and others to improve safety and living conditions for residents.
