Salem Corporation builds channel to manage Mookaneri Lake water

thehindu.com

Salem Corporation has begun building a two-kilometer outlet channel to manage surplus water from Mookaneri Lake, costing ₹11.07 crore. This project aims to prevent flooding in nearby areas during the rainy season. Previously, excess water from the lake caused sewage to mix with rainwater, leading to stagnation in residential and agricultural areas. The new channel will direct this water to the Thirumanimutharu River. Construction is expected to take six months. The project received approval from the Municipal Administration Department and was inaugurated by state ministers on February 22.
