Sam Darnold chose Seahawks for money and starting role
Quarterback Sam Darnold has chosen to join the Seattle Seahawks instead of the Pittsburgh Steelers. NFL insider Albert Breer provided insights into Darnold's decision. He noted that Darnold was attracted to playing for Steelers coach Mike Tomlin but ultimately signed a three-year deal with the Seahawks. Darnold's deal with Seattle is worth $37.5 million in the first year. It also includes $55 million in injury guarantees and roster bonuses. However, Darnold's choice was not solely about the money. Breer pointed out that Darnold wanted a chance to prove himself as a long-term option for the team. Seahawks provide that opportunity, while he felt the Vikings and Steelers might not. The Vikings are reportedly looking for a short-term quarterback option. The Steelers, on the other hand, are exploring their options for the upcoming season and have shown interest in signing veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They recently met with Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, suggesting they might draft a quarterback. Concerns have been raised about Darnold's past performance. Some analysts believe he may struggle with the Seahawks, similar to his final games with the Vikings. It appears that Pittsburgh did not guarantee Darnold the chance to be the starter, which influenced his decision.
