Samajwadi Party to revamp leadership in Uttar Pradesh
The Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh is planning changes to its organization. A senior party leader confirmed that a revamp is coming, but the final list of new district chiefs is still being decided. These changes come after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently announced its new district leaders. The SP intends to make similar adjustments but is currently delaying the announcement due to ongoing panchayat elections across the state. The party plans to carry out the changes in four phases. Non-performers will be dropped, and new individuals will be given leadership roles. This strategy aims to address any internal issues and strengthen the party's position. Last year, Shyam Lal Pal was appointed as the new state president, marking the first step in this revamp. Party chief Akhilesh Yadav held a meeting to discuss the changes in December. The SP is also looking to include more representatives from the PDA communities—backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. This approach helped the party win 37 out of 80 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, making it a key part of their strategy for future elections, including upcoming zila panchayat and state assembly polls.
