Samsung and Apple to launch super-slim smartphones this year

The anticipation for two new smartphones, the iPhone 17 Air and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, is growing. Both models are expected to be released this year, featuring sleek designs and high-end specifications. Samsung has already confirmed the Galaxy S25 Edge, but Apple has not yet announced the iPhone 17 Air, although a launch is expected soon. The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be Apple’s thinnest phone, measuring just 5.5mm at its narrowest point. It may come with a 6.6-inch OLED display supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. To keep the phone slim, Apple might eliminate the physical SIM card slot in favor of eSIM technology. On the other hand, the Galaxy S25 Edge is said to be between 5.6mm and 6.4mm thick and could feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display also with a 120Hz refresh rate. This ensures vibrant colors and smooth visuals. In terms of performance, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be powered by Apple’s A19 chip with 8GB of RAM. It might include the new C1 modem for better efficiency despite having less powerful capabilities. The Galaxy S25 Edge is likely to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with similar RAM, aiming for optimal thermal management. Battery life is another important aspect. Recent reports suggest that the iPhone 17 Air may maintain or improve battery life compared to previous models, despite a possibly smaller battery size. It will also support MagSafe wireless charging. The Galaxy S25 Edge is rumored to have a battery capacity between 3,800mAh and 4,200mAh and will support 25W wired charging. When it comes to cameras, the iPhone 17 Air may feature a single 48MP main camera that relies on computational photography for enhanced performance. In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to have a dual-camera system, including a 200MP primary sensor and an ultra-wide lens. Both smartphones will utilize advanced AI technology. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to operate on iOS 19, introducing a range of AI features. Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge is likely to incorporate Galaxy AI for various enhancements, including photography and language translation. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch in September 2025, likely priced around $899. The Galaxy S25 Edge may arrive earlier, between April and June 2025, and could be priced at around $649.
