San Diego FC bolsters roster with expansion draft picks and trades
San Diego FC has strengthened its roster by selecting five players in the MLS expansion draft, including fullback/midfielder Jasper Löffelsend as the first pick. The team also made trades, sending Thiago Andrade to Toronto FC and Hosei Kijima to D.C. United. In return for Andrade, San Diego received up to $250,000 in allocation money and a first-round SuperDraft pick. D.C. United provided $400,000 for Kijima. San Diego's sporting director expressed excitement about the new players and the trades' potential for future moves. San Diego FC will begin its inaugural season on February 22-23 against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The team has also acquired goalkeeper CJ dos Santos and defender Christopher McVey, among others, as it builds its lineup.
