San Diego FC selects Hamady Diop as top pick in MLS Expansion Draft

San Diego FC selected five players in the 2024 MLS Expansion Draft, including top pick Hamady Diop, as it prepares for its first season in 2025. Three players will join the team, while two were traded for assets. Diop, a 22-year-old defender from Senegal, has played four games for Charlotte FC. He is joined by Heine Gikling Bruseth and Jasper Loffelsend, while Thiago Andrade and Hosei Kijima were traded for allocation money and draft picks. San Diego FC will play at San Diego State's football stadium and will be the 30th team in MLS. The club currently has six players under contract, including Mexican winger Hirving Lozano.
