Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga revealed at the Thandel pre-release event that Sai Pallavi was his first choice for the lead role in Arjun Reddy. He explained that a casting coordinator from Kerala misled him, leading to Shalini Pandey being cast instead. Vanga shared that he believed the film had a strong romantic element, but the coordinator doubted Sai Pallavi's suitability for the role. He noted that actresses often evolve with opportunities, but praised Sai Pallavi for her consistency in the industry. Arjun Reddy, released in 2017, received both acclaim and criticism for its themes but was a box-office success. Vanga later adapted the film into Hindi as Kabir Singh in 2019.
