Sandiganbayan upholds conviction of former GSIS official for P8 million fraud

The Sandiganbayan upheld the conviction of former GSIS official Ana Maria Fedelis for stealing P8 million through fraudulent claims. She created and processed 661 fictitious claims for the GSIS EduChild benefit without authorization. Fedelis was sentenced to eight to 12 years in prison for malversation, reduced from 12 to 14 years due to returning P1.16 million. She also received additional sentences for graft and violations of other laws. The court found that Fedelis admitted to depositing the fraudulent claims into her personal bank account and withdrawing the funds. She faces a fine of P6.97 million and is permanently disqualified from public office.
