Sanford man faces firearm possession charges again

A 38-year-old man from Sanford, Shamar Davell Petty, has been charged again with possession of a firearm by a felon. This is his third offense, following two prior convictions. Petty was arrested on October 17, 2024, and initially faced a misdemeanor charge, which was later dismissed. He was released on a $50,000 bond, but it is unclear if he posted it. Petty has a history of firearm-related convictions, including a federal prison sentence in 2015. He has an upcoming administrative hearing scheduled for March 27 in Lee County Superior Court.
