SASTRA's tax moot court concludes in tie
Chennai: The 20th Nani Palkhivala memorial tax moot court competition ended in a rare tie. Both Symbiosis Law School from Noida and TNNLU from Srirangam were named winners. The final round featured a challenging debate on Section 144 of the Income Tax Act. Teams discussed limitations under Section 153 and the most favored nation (MFN) clause in the Indo-China double taxation avoidance agreement. The jury, which included Justice C Saravanan from the Madras High Court, praised the high-quality legal analysis and strong presentations from both teams. Due to their outstanding performances, the jury awarded each team a cash prize of 50,000 and a trophy. A total of 24 top law schools from across India participated in the competition. Justice Saravanan highlighted the importance of perseverance, thorough research, and maintaining mental well-being in his remarks. Additionally, there were individual awards. Aadia Nair from NUALS, Kochi, was recognized as the best speaker. Mehul Saravanan from TNNLU, Srirangam, received the best researcher award, and NLU, Delhi, won for best memorials.
