Saudi Arabia introduces robots at Neom construction site following worker death reports
Saudi Arabia is introducing robotic construction aids at its Neom site, the world's largest construction project, to reduce working hours. This move follows allegations of worker mistreatment and reports of over 21,000 worker deaths from South Asia. The Neom project, which includes the ambitious "linear city" called The Line, is funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. The robots, provided by Samsung C&T Corporation, aim to improve safety and efficiency amid ongoing international scrutiny of labor conditions. The introduction of robotics comes as Saudi Arabia prepares to host the 2034 World Cup, which will require extensive construction. The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health has disputed claims of increased worker fatalities linked to conditions in the country.
