Saurabh Gadgil, chairman of PN Gadgil Jewellers, has become India's newest billionaire after the company's recent market debut. His net worth is now nearly $1.1 billion, following a 61% rise in share price since the IPO. Gadgil, 47, is based in Pune and previously played chess at a national level. He took over the family business in 1998 and credits his strategic thinking skills to his chess background. PN Gadgil Jewellers, founded in 1832, operates 39 retail stores and sells products online. Gadgil's education includes an MBA from Symbiosis University, where he interned at the Reserve Bank of India.
