Savanna Mullins excels as pitcher and hitter for Gaston College

Savanna Mullins, a freshman pitcher at Gaston College, is making a mark on her college softball team. The Gaston College Rhinos are a strong team, currently with a record of 33 wins and 3 losses. They are ranked 13th in the country for junior college softball. Mullins, a former star at Lee County High School, has shown her skills both as a pitcher and a hitter. She joined Gaston College after having a successful senior year, where she had an impressive batting average of .433 and struck out 157 batters on the mound. This season, Mullins has appeared in 38 at-bats, hitting .400 with 12 hits, including a home run. She has also scored 15 runs and has 12 RBIs. Her best game came in a thrilling match against Caldwell Community College, where she hit a home run and drove in the winning run to secure an 11-10 victory. As a pitcher, Mullins has an 8-1 record with a 4.80 ERA after 51 innings. She has made eight starts and one relief appearance. Her strikeout-to-walk ratio is impressive, standing at 42-12. Mullins is one of only two local athletes on the Rhinos, alongside Brandon Crabtree, who plays baseball for the team. Crabtree is also having a strong season, hitting .400 as the starting first baseman.
