The Thai government reports a significant drop in losses from call scams. This reduction is attributed to actions taken against scam operations near the border with Myanmar. Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong announced that losses fell by at least 200 million baht. Since February 5, the government cut power, oil, and internet access to border areas known to house scam gangs. Mr. Prasert highlighted a 20% decrease in reported cybercrime cases. There were 25,487 cases reported since the power cut, down from 31,159 cases in January. Complaints about call scams have also decreased considerably. Reports show a 67% drop, with over 1,000 complaints per day before the government’s actions. The Anti-Online Crime Centre reported a reduction in damage amounts as well. In February, the financial impact from complaints was 200 million baht less than in January, marking a decline of about 30%.
