Scholar emphasizes science's importance for humanity's future
B. Jagadeeshwara Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, spoke at a symposium about the importance of science in understanding life and sustainability. The event, held recently at the Central University of Karnataka, focused on the relationship between science and the environment. Rao noted that as the environment changes rapidly, species, including humans, face extinction in the distant future. Chandrashekhar Biradar, a resource person at the symposium, discussed issues in agriculture. He criticized modern farming methods for increasing costs and harming soil health. Biradar emphasized that the chemical content in food has led to its rejection by overseas markets and has caused health problems for people. He advocated for returning to organic farming practices as a solution. Battu Satyanarayana, the university's Vice-Chancellor, shared concerns about growing environmental problems linked to waste generation. He suggested that scientific solutions are necessary to reduce waste and improve ecological health. He highlighted the need for sustainable business models and also mentioned the pollution of rivers as a serious concern. Praveen K. Sappa, CEO of Artho Biotech, discussed how insect technology can contribute to sustainability. The symposium included faculty members and students, all engaged in discussions about the future of science in addressing these crucial issues.
