Schools in Mandaue ready for May elections
The Commission on Elections in Mandaue City has inspected schools that will be polling places for the upcoming May elections. They checked 271 precincts across the city, which has about 236,000 registered voters. The local office has been assessing the condition of classrooms and facilities since last year. Election Assistant Jaqueline Reuyan stated that the inspection went well. She noted that the electricity supply is stable, but there are some requests for replacing busted lights. Unlike previous elections, there will be no makeshift classrooms used this year. Miguel Lumapas, the executive secretary to Mayor Glenn Bercede, mentioned that the issue with broken lights will be addressed in their next Local School Board meeting. City engineering officials hold weekly meetings to discuss the status of public schools. Lumapas emphasized the importance of having functioning lights for safety during evening election activities. He also encouraged schools to submit their requests for assistance. Additionally, Comelec Mandaue is waiting for the second batch of election supplies. They have received necessary forms for testing vote counting machines and election materials like thumbprint takers.
