Scottie Scheffler criticizes LIV golfers for division
Scottie Scheffler has expressed his frustration over the ongoing division in professional golf. He believes that the players who left to join LIV Golf are partly responsible for the situation. Although there was a framework agreement announced in 2023 between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, no official deal has been finalized. In a media call, Scheffler talked about missing the competition from former PGA players. He acknowledged that LIV has attracted some strong players but insisted that the PGA Tour still showcases the best talent in golf. He highlighted the depth of competition on the PGA Tour and stated, “I wish some of those guys had stayed.” Scheffler noted that the players who left made their own choices and understood the consequences of their decisions. He emphasized that he does not hold any resentment toward them and feels it is up to those players to explain why golf remains divided. As the Masters tournament approaches, all eyes are on how players from both tours will perform together. Unlike some PGA events, LIV golfers have not been banned from competing at Augusta National. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan expressed a desire for golf to come together again but did not provide much detail on the current status of negotiations.
