SDA to contest Pasir Ris-Changi GRC in Singapore
The Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) plans to run in the new Pasir Ris-Changi Group Representation Constituency (GRC) despite recent boundary changes for the upcoming General Election. On Sunday, SDA chairman Desmond Lim stated that it is their "duty" to represent the Pasir Ris area, where they have been active for years. During a walkabout at Loyang Point shopping mall, Lim emphasized that major issues affecting residents include the cost of living, job security, and education. He noted that these concerns persist regardless of electoral boundary adjustments. The Pasir Ris-Changi GRC is a new constituency formed by combining parts of the former Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and East Coast GRC. The SDA has participated in elections in this region since 2006 but has not won. In addition to discussing their plans, Lim mentioned the SDA is in talks with the Workers' Party about running in the newly formed Punggol GRC. He is open to collaboration if there are multiple candidates in Pasir Ris-Changi, expressing a desire for a united opposition. At the last general election in 2020, the SDA competed against the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) and the People’s Voice party, finishing second with nearly 24% of the vote. Despite earlier intentions to step down, Lim decided to continue as chairman to support his colleagues and the party’s efforts.
