SDSU officer arrested for possessing child pornography
A San Diego State University police officer has been arrested for possession of child pornography. Sgt. Paul Aurelio McClain was taken into custody last week after investigations uncovered multiple videos of child sexual abuse on his personal computer. Court records reveal that the videos may depict girls as young as six years old being sexually assaulted. McClain was arrested on Thursday and is currently being held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 1 and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The investigation began when the Homeland Security Investigations cyber-crime unit traced downloads from an anonymous file-sharing site to McClain's home. Authorities served a search warrant at his residence last week. In his office, agents found a hard drive containing disturbing materials and discovered two other hard drives with deleted files that seemed to relate to similar content. According to the complaint, McClain’s wife cooperated with investigators and stated she had no access to the devices in his office. She also mentioned that their three children use their own devices. SDSU Police Chief Gregory Murphy informed the campus community about the arrest but did not disclose McClain's name due to employee privacy laws. The university has now begun proceedings to terminate his employment. McClain was previously involved in the university's K9 team, and his participation was highlighted in recent university publications.
