A second man has been charged with murder in connection with a killing that took place near Anaheim in 2019. Rey Jesus Najera, 31, faces murder and felony assault charges. His charges came on the same day that the actual shooter was found guilty. The victim, 28-year-old Eli Gamaliel Victoriano-Che, was killed in an RV as part of a robbery and revenge plot. Prosecutors say Najera threatened him with a metal pipe during the incident. The shooter, Ricardo Campos, pulled the trigger. The events leading up to the killing began at a motel where Victoriano-Che was accused by Johanna Leon-Pateyro of making unwanted advances. After an incident with police, Leon-Pateyro contacted Campos and Najera to confront Victoriano-Che at his RV. She later stated that she anticipated violence would occur. When Campos and Najera arrived, they initially had trouble getting inside the RV. However, Campos showed a gun, and they were let in. Campos then shot Victoriano-Che in the head. Leon-Pateyro and others identified Campos as the shooter. In 2020, she pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received an 11-year prison sentence. Campos was arrested in Texas and brought back to California for trial. Soon after Campos was convicted, prosecutors decided to charge Najera based on the testimony from the trial. He has not yet entered a plea regarding the new charges.
