Second Round of U.S. Open Cup announced for April
U.S. Soccer has revealed the matchups for the Second Round of the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. This national championship will see sixteen teams play on April 1 and 2. This match starts at 9:00 PM ET. Home teams for the Second Round include Columbus Crew 2, South Georgia Tormenta FC, and Inter Miami CF II, among others. The winners of these matches will advance to the Third Round, which takes place on April 15-16. Here, they will face sixteen professional teams from the USL Championship. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is in its 110th year. It has been the national championship since 1914. The tournament allows both professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer to compete. The team that wins the tournament will qualify for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup and receive a cash prize. The champion will also have their name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy. Last year, Los Angeles Football Club became the champion by defeating Sporting Kansas City. This year, the total prize pool for the tournament is $1 million, with $600,000 awarded to the champion.
