Security forces clear Islamabad of Imran Khan supporters after deadly crackdown
Security forces in Islamabad have cleared the area of supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, following a violent crackdown that resulted in at least eight deaths and many injuries. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party claims the crackdown was aimed at dispersing peaceful protests demanding Khan's release. Despite the crackdown, PTI leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's chief minister, stated that protests would continue until Khan's demands are met. Thousands had gathered in Islamabad, but security forces used tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the crowd. The government reported that over 900 people were arrested during the operation, which included Afghan nationals. The situation in the red zone has returned to calm, but the aftermath shows significant destruction, including damaged vehicles from the protests.
