A self-defence workshop for women took place at the Samvada Youth Resource Centre in Jeppu on March 23. The event, called “The Power Within,” was organized by M.A. Journalism and Mass Communication students from St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) in partnership with the Institute of Karate and Martial Arts (IKMA). Nithin N. Suvarna, the chief trainer at IKMA, led the workshop. He explained that self-defence relies on confidence and skills. Participants learned various techniques and moves, demonstrated by Nithin and three national-level medalists in karate: Ashni, Avni, and Janvi. The event aimed to equip women with the necessary skills to protect themselves. Male participants also joined to understand the importance of treating women with equality. The session concluded with a question and answer segment, allowing attendees to clarify their doubts about self-defence techniques.
