Senate committee advances bill for D.C. control of federal land, opening door for Commanders' return to RFK Stadium
The U.S. Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee has passed a bill that would allow the District of Columbia to control federal land, including the site of the former RFK Stadium. The bill passed with a 17-2 vote and will move to the Senate floor. This development keeps alive the possibility of the Washington Commanders returning to D.C. for home games. The team currently plays in Maryland, but both Maryland and Virginia are also competing to host the franchise. Senator Steve Daines, who previously blocked the bill, has now expressed support, citing positive feedback from constituents. The House passed the bill earlier this year, and if it passes the Senate, it will go to President Biden for approval.
