Senate Democrats approve budget cuts supporting Trump’s agenda
Ten Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, voted in favor of a Republican budget bill on Friday. This bill, which passed the House earlier, includes significant cuts to the federal budget, including $1 billion from Washington, D.C. The Senate approved the bill with a 62-38 vote, surpassing the 60 votes needed to end debate. This sets the stage for a final vote requiring only a simple majority. Schumer's support for the bill angered many House Democrats and voters, who felt he surrendered leverage over Donald Trump. Critics, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, expressed that voting for cloture was effectively voting for the bill.
