Senate Democrats plan to reject GOP spending bill
Senate Democrats are poised to reject a spending bill passed by House Republicans. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated that the bill lacks bipartisan support, as it was drafted without input from Democrats. The House bill proposes $880 billion in cuts to social safety net programs over ten years. While it passed in the House with minimal Democratic support, Senate Republicans will need Democratic votes to advance it, which they currently do not have. Democratic representatives, including Pramila Jayapal and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have urged Senate Democrats to oppose the bill. They emphasize that Republicans should pass the bill without Democratic assistance.
