Senate panel recommends cutting funding for Philippines' AKAP program in 2025 budget
The Senate Panel on Finance in the Philippines has recommended removing funding for the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) from the 2025 national budget. This decision is part of the Committee Report on House Bill No. 10800. The proposed deletion is noted in the special and general provisions of the report. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will instead focus on other programs. AKAP funding faced controversy due to allegations linking it to a campaign for Charter change. Senator Imee Marcos claimed it was used to encourage participation in a "fake" people's initiative.
